Wrapping up 2024 Shows & Holiday Plans

Finishing up shows for the year

53rd Annual Kentuck Festival of the Arts

After a year of driving across the country doing a bunch of Oddities & Curiosities Expos, Andy and I finished up (possibly) our last show of the year at the 53rd Annual Kentuck Festival of the Arts less than a mile away from home.

There might be a show Andy’s doing in Huntsville, AL at the beginning of December, but we haven’t heard anything official just yet.

But, if Kentuck was the last show of the year, it was a good show to end things on for 2024!

Over the last 10 years, Andy has done Kentuck 6 times, including a virtual show held during the pandemic. That said, this last weekend was the best Kentuck he’s been a part of, which is due in no small part to the changes made to the festival this year. When Northport’s leadership dropped the ball on things, Tuscaloosa was eager to pick things up, and Kentuck has quickly gone from a show that I (Jon) felt ambivalent towards to a show that I’m looking forward to doing again in the future.

This is especially true as the last few months of shows have been in a sharp decline. Speaking with friends who do a wide range of shows, from expos to conventions to outdoor festivals to neighborhood celebrations, things have been slowing down for everyone. And the possibly reasons we’re all guessing at are what you’d expect them to be; election year concerns, grocery costs skyrocketing, a nearly frozen job market, natural disasters, just all those “fun” things... It’s surprisingly scary how much of a spider’s web everything is stuck in, pulling and twisting at each other. So, if you’re here and you’ve bought from Andy this year, thank you.

But, all of that was really just to posit the thought, I wonder what a normal year would give us with this new and improved Kentuck.

New Art

You may have noticed that there’s a lot of new artwork in the photos above! I’ll be updating the 2024 - ??? Gallery and the Shop in the coming days/weeks to include all of the new paintings that Andy’s made.

Make sure to follow Andy on Instagram if you want to see new stuff sooner! I tend to wait until we have high quality photos or scans of art work before adding them to the website.

Holiday Plans

It is currently our plan to have a Halloween sale next week. We’ll be adding some new prints and paintings to the shop, and offering some discounts. Such spooky, so thrills.

Additionally, depending on what we find ourselves doing for Thanksgiving, we’ll either run a Black Friday sale or a Cyber Monday sale. We’re still working out what all that will intel, so keep an eye on the Instagram.

Upcoming Website Shop updates

Looking over the website data, and how folks are interacting with the Shop, I’ve noticed that not everyone is moving beyond the Shop’s landing page when on their phone. The Shop opens to the Recently Added section by default, but it’s easy to miss that this is what you’re looking at.

I have the shop set up this way because there’s quite a lot of stuff in the shop, and it could bog down the shop loading everything in all together.

As soon as I figure out how to, I will be adding some images to the shop to make it more clear what section of the Shop you are currently viewing, regardless of how you’re viewing the website.

I think that’s it for right now! Thanks for reading!
